This is a fully closed roads event. The route starts with a gentle fall and rise, just to warm you up, as we line you up with the top of Cheddar Gorge. With the right turn that comes at 2.5km, you are now at the very top of Cheddar Gorge and on a 7.5km long downhill run to the finish. On the 7.5km downhill section you will drop 150m+ of elevation making this #thefastest10km in the country!
We are super excited to be organising the very first closed roads running race through the iconic Cheddar Gorge. Runners will get to soak in the amazing views of the 450ft high cliffs on roads which are usually dominated by cars. This is a unique opportunity to appreciate the wonder of the gorge and run a rather fast time too!
The race registration is all inclusive at £35 per person and includes event parking, event shuttle buses, alongside everything you would normally expect; bespoke event medal, chip timing and our usual incredible feast station at the finish line.
Whilst there is no formal cut off, runners should be aiming to finish the event in no more than 90mins so you have time to enjoy your race experience before we need to reopen the roads. The event is open to buggy runners - please note the steepest part of the route is -17% so you need to strap your little one in tight! We strongly recommend that buggy runners start at the back of their wave so they have more space. The event is not open to canicross runners or walkers (mix of run, jog, walk is absolutely fine!) Minimum age to take part is 15.
This event will not be included on UK Athletics' database list of official PBs as they don't recognise events with such a large elevation drop in their rankings.
There are great group discount rates for groups of 10 or more runners taking part in races of any distance, on the same date. 10-19 runners save 15%, 20-49 runners save 20%, 50+ runners save 25%. All bookings must be made in advance of race day to qualify for the discounted rate. We ask all groups to be registered at least four weeks in advance of the race date to we have the opportunity to top up our medal order if necessary.
The road which we are starting the event on is a single carriage width and relatively short, so we will therefore be setting runners off in waves.
When you register, you will have the option to sign up to one of twelve waves. You need to register in the same wave as your friends to guarantee you can start together. This gives us the option to start runners in small waves should that be necessary, or in larger waves to give you the normal mass start feel. Wave sizes will therefore be between 250 or 1,000 in size. If you would like to have a bit more space for your run, there will be plenty of space at the back of each wave.
All runners will be set off across a 30min window, between 09:30 and 10:00am. It is likely that the runners who have parked at Winchester Farm and caught the bus to the start will be in the first waves to start, 09:30 - 09:45. And the runners who have parked at the start, at Warren Farm, will start 09:45 - 10:00. We will produce the final schedule in the weeks immediately before the race.
As this is a Point to Point race, with two parking options (for your car/bike), there are a few things you need to consider and chat with your friends about before you book so you are in the same group of runners. Please take a look at the Event Info and Schedules page before you register to see the timings for the day.
Option 1: Warren Farm Option - Park at the start, walk from the finish to Winchester Farm, and catch the bus back to the Warren Farm.
Option 2: Winchester Farm Option - Park at Winchester Farm, catch the bus to the start at Warren Farm, walk back to Winchester Farm.
The walk from the Finish area back to Winchester Farm is just under 2 miles. You will through Cheddar Village on the way, a perfect opportunity to grab a slice of Cheddar, refreshments or stop off for a spot of lunch.
