This is a fully closed roads event! Enjoy the incredible sights of Cheddar Gorge in it's natural, traffic free environment!
We have 3 races to choose from this year;
5km - 100% downhill race!! A PB has to be all but guaranteed.
10km - Rolling for the first 2.5km and then a 7.5km downhill sprint to the finish!! 150m net height drop makes this a great PB race
Half Marathon - Start at the bottom of the gorge, run to the top and then back down again. A modest 50% uphill and 50% downhill...just like most races...A stunning route, but perhaps only a PB course if this is your first ever half marathon
We are super excited to be organising the very first closed roads running race through the iconic Cheddar Gorge. Runners will get to soak in the amazing views of the 450ft high cliffs on roads which are usually dominated by cars. This is a unique opportunity to appreciate the wonder of the gorge and run a rather fast time too!
5km - £25
10km - £30
Half Marathon - £40
The optional bus journey (5km and 10km runners) back to the start line is £5 which can be added to your booking. The Half Marathon runners event does not involve a bus journey.
Whilst there is no formal cut off, runners should be aiming to finish the event in no more than 90mins and 3hrs15mins for the half marathon, so you have time to enjoy your race experience before we need to reopen the roads. The event is open to buggy runners - please note the steepest part of the route is -17% so you need to strap your little one in tight! We strongly recommend that buggy runners start at the back of their wave so they have more space.The event is not open to canicross runners or walkers (mix of run, jog, walk is absolutely fine!) Minimum age to take part is 12 for the 5km, 15 for the 10km and 17 for the half marathon.
This event will not be included on UK Athletics' database list of official PBs as they don't recognise events with such a large elevation drop in their rankings.
There are great group discount rates for groups of 10 or more runners taking part in races of any distance, on the same date. 10-19 runners save 15%, 20-49 runners save 20%, 50+ runners save 25%. All bookings must be made in advance of race day to qualify for the discounted rate. We ask all groups to be registered at least four weeks in advance of the race date to we have the opportunity to top up our medal order if necessary.
The road which we are starting the event on is a single carriage width and relatively short, so we will therefore be setting runners off in waves. Waves will be up to 500 runners in size.
Times are subject to final confirmation
Half Marathon - 09:30
10km - 10:00, 10:10, 10:20
5km - 10:00
