Course A (November & January)
November / January Skyline 10km Map....Note this course may be a little long (about 10.8km) to make the most of what the route has to offer :-)
Route Description - Course 'A' (November & January)
The race starts by the football pitches adjacent to the car park and behind the Sports Training Village. The run gets underway with a gradual climb past the university accommodation before making a left at the top of the hill. Here is some wide woodland trails on flat terrain. Shortly after 1km runners will cross through the hedge on the right hand side and make a left hand turn, down the hill towards the beautifl Sham Castle.
Once runners have passed the castle on your left hand side, keep to the hedge row on your right hand side (2km) and down a tight windy trail. At the bottom runners will loop back up towards the University, up a couple of steps and over a stone stile which will being Sham Castle back into view.
After climbing out the woods, runners will cross through the tree line once again and head towards Bathampton Woods along the gold course perimeter. Next there is a circuit through the woods, expect plenty of mood and interesting trails before runners emerge in Bushey Norwood field.
Now there is a long downhill along the edge of the field, another stone stile to negotiate and perhaps the muddiest section of the course before coming back round to the Start/Finish line. 5km runners will do 1 lap, 10km runners will head out for a 2nd lap.
Course B (December & February)
December / February Skyline 10km Map...This course may also be on the generous side of 10km. To make it any less would not do the course justice :-)
Route Description - Course 'B' (December & February)
The race starts by the side of the football pitches next to the race car park, and behind the Sports Training Village where registration takes place. There is a gradual climb on footpath before the first left hand turn around the University accommodation block, where the run joins some wide forest trails.
Shortly after 1km runners make a right hand turn over a stone stile and head down to Sham Castle, with great views of Bath over to the left at this point. In front of the Castle, runners make a left down a little track and joing the Golf Course Access Road. Note that you will come to this road off a downhill so take care, whilst there won't be a lot of traffic, this road is NOT CLOSED to traffic.
Join the road and head uphill, sticking to the left hand side, and bearing left through the Golf Course car park. The next section is flat to rolling, with plenty of mud on the first section to 2km, then open meadows to the 3km point.
From 3km - 4km are some windy, and very muddy, woodland trails as wel as a cheeky little climb somewhere in the middle. 4km - 5km is another flat section, with some muddy patches thrown in for good measure. 5km runners do a single lap, 10km runners will run through the start line and head off for the 2nd lap.
